In the wake of the rumors that Jay Leno is heading to ABC after he retires in 2009 (gossip he has so far denied), NBC announced today that the funnyman will officially step down from his "Tonight Show" hosting duties on May 29, 2009 with his replacement, Conan O'Brien, filling the role just days after on June 1.
Meanwhile, Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, says the network is still in talks with Leno about staying at NBC after his "Tonight Show" run.
"We are not agreeing that he is going to ABC," he said today. "We are still talking to Jay about staying at NBC beyond his deal. We made our decision and we are happy with it that the 'Tonight Show' will dominate in its timeslot." ETOnline.com

Brooke White Hates David Archuleta? LOL

You can't believe everything you see – or don't see – on MySpace, says American Idol's Brooke White, who blames a technical glitch for the absence of David Archuleta as a "friend" on her page.
"Don't fret, my dears, David is one of my favorite people on the planet!!!" she writes. "Rest assured, we all are all super-duper friends, like family, actually, enjoying this tour together."
The 25-year-old fifth-place finalist on last season's show says only a technical issue has kept 17-year-old runner-up "Archie" from showing up on her "top friends" box. Both are now on an American Idol tour of the U.S. with the other contestants.
"It's been driving me crazy ... and so after going on a search through hundreds of pages of friends ... I still can't find Archie's official page ... along with a few other Idol contestant friends of mine!" White writes. "In time, I will work it out, when I have few spare moments while on the road!"
White says she's amazed it even became an issue among some fans.
"It's kinda funny, and/or interesting how seriously people take this MySpace thing," she writes. "I can't believe I'm even writing a blog about this, LOL!!!" Loren Legarda had no trouble doing that. When the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) ordered immediate recall of certain batches of LUCIDA - DS / GLUTHATIONE 500mg from Philippine markets, Loren demanded, not as a product endorser but as a senator, for her Lucida-DS billboard endorsement to be taken out of sight from public viewing within 24 hours. She might have realized her billboards can do more harm than good for her political ambitions. Look what power can do within 24 hours.
What's funny is that she made a delayed reaction by saying, “As an advocate of consumer welfare and protection, I will not tolerate misrepresentation of facts by any importer, distributor or manufacturer of consumer products that tend to deceive the consumer.” That's a sign of "pakitang tao".
Before accepting the offer for product endorsement, she should have done the necessary background check specially that she is a public official. The downside of this is that: can the public still trust her for being "too late the hero"? She misled the consumers for promoting a product that is less effective. She can prove her sincerity unless she does something to help users of Lucida-DS to get a refund.
She should be given her own dose of medicine by the importer/distributor for withdrawing as product endorser. She might be liable for breach of contract. Or worse, the consumers of Lucida-DS can do something against her legally. That would be a dream come true for Korina Sanchez.
Korina might be hitting two birds with one stone for airing a special feature on glutathiaone capsules, used as skin whitening alternative, on her weekly show Rated K on ABS-CBN. Although, this is not the first time her show featured sponsor-related report, on that particular episode, in a segment reportedly paid for by Met Tathione, she made a run down of the sponsor's competitors that has side effect or do not contain the right amount of glutathione as indicated in the bottle labels based on the results from BFAD. One of which is Lucida-DS, endorsed by no other than Senator Loren Legarda.
Korina may have overlooked the aspect of conflict of interest or she just ignored the possible consequence and went ahead with her agenda, if she had any. She is the girlfriend of Senator Mar Roxas. Both Legarda and Roxas are wannabe contenders in the presidential race in 2010 election. So aside from getting paid by her sponsor, which helps keep her show stay on air despite low ratings, for promoting the product, she also helps her boyfriend score points at the expense of Loren.
But Roxas told the Manila Standard that he does "not meddle in the journalistic profession of Korina." As for the distributor of Lucida-DS, this "gluta war" is the outcome of Mar vs. Loren campaign war started by Korina, whether intentionally or unintentionally. And look again what media can do or can be used for.
E! reports, The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan, "was majorly snubbed in the inaugural race for Outstanding Reality-Competition Host when nominations were announced this morning. Instead, American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, Dancing With the Stars' Tom Bergeron, Deal or No Deal's Howie Mandel, Survivor's Jeff Probst and Project Runway's Heidi Klum, the lone female contender, will battle it out in his stead."
Based on the rules and regulation of the Television Academy, Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program "is for the proactive “master of ceremony” host and does not include reactive participants or judges. Eligibility is open to the host(s) of programs entered in the following categories: Reality Program (category 77) and Reality-Competition Program."
TAR took Outstanding Reality-Competition Program five times, or five consecutive years, since Emmy first handed the award for the said category in 2003.

Like for instance this: Sen. Revilla hints at running for VP in 2010: “Kung talagang may clamor that’s the time for me to decide if ill run or not (as vice president). If Senator Jinggoy wants to run for vice president I’m willing to give way… same thing with Gov. V (Santos)," paliwanag ng actor-politician. No to Bong Revilla. No to Jinggoy Estrada. No to Vilma Santos.

Is Loren Legarda joking? Isn't it too late? She accepted the ad campaign without doing the necessary background check about the product. I doubt if she really use the product she's endorsing personally. What's clear is that she used the ad campaign to her advantage for her premature campaigning for 2010 national election.
This expose came out more than a month ago on Rated K on ABS-CBN. That's why Lucida-DS exec smells politics behind product recall order because the show is hosted by Korina Sanchez, who is very much identified with Mar Roxas. But regardless of the show and the host's agenda, Loren's delayed reaction on the issue is "unsenatorial". Is she the President we're looking for?
Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago reacted against other senators' TV ad and commercial billboards in Metro Manila. Aside from Loren, other senators have done TV commercials endorsing consumer products like Francis Escudero for Circulan food supplement, Pia Cayetano for Downy Isang Banlaw, Mar Roxas for Tide, Francis Pangilinan for Lucky Me, and Richard Gordon for Safeguard.
Promoting their personal advocacies on TV are Vice President Noli de Castro for Pag-IBIG's housing loan (which is a regular sponsor of his wife, Arlene de Castro's Bayan Productions-produced programs airing on ABS-CBN - why, oh why), and Manuel Villar for Hapee Toothpaste and OFW assistance (which advertises a cellphone number, not an office landline or hotline - that's weird). Ping Lacson has a billboard for Facial Care Center.
Those names are actually "Presidentiables" and "Vice-Presidentiables" for Philippine Election on 2010. At least they think they've got what it takes to be one, they are thinking that they are the only hope of the Philippines. Everybody wants to be a hero. But what are they doing at a time when needed most by the Filipinos? They seem to appear out of nowhere after a crisis or tragedy. Never before. Each one wants to be the first to call for and be part of an immediate investigation. After it's too late.
Sometimes, I wish that we are living in a fictional world and not take those political candidates seriously. Just like pre-Two-Face Harvey Dent for District Attorney. His campaign platform is impressive and even if he failed to do all of it, it's fiction. Those who voted for him do not need to feel sorry about.

Two weeks ago, William Petersen aka Gil Grissom on the hit TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, was at Los Angeles International Airport waiting for his flight to depart when a bomb scare happened. "Whenever I'm in this situation, there's usually a set," Petersen said.
Now, Grissom fans will have to see this season's 10th episode because Petersen is making a departure from the show and that will be will be his last as a full-time series regular, reports Michael Ausiello on EW.com and confirmed by the show's executive producer, Carol Mendelsohn.
On E!, Mendelsohn said that they have a plan, assuring fans that there will be blood—both new blood and the regular DNA-filled, splattering kind—to make Petersen's pending departure less painful.
Big Brother Australia is going off the air on Australia's Channel Ten. The series is now on its last week, and the announcement of this year's winner, which is happening on Monday, will be its last episode - ever.
Report says that tricks could not boost ratings and even Pamela Anderson, who was reportedly paid $500,000 for her 3-day guest appearance, could not save Big Brother. The former Baywatch star entered the Big Brother house on July 9th with hope to boost the series' failing ratings. This year's series has had the lowest ratings ever in Australia.
On ABS-CBN, Pinoy Big Brother tried to renew its viewers' interest on the show by blatantly copying familiar key elements of Survivor series not only to boost its low ratings but to preempt the upcoming Survivor Philippines on GMA Network.
CNN reports "Viacom and other copyright holders have agreed to let YouTube mask user IDs and Internet addresses when Google Inc.'s online video site hands over viewership records in a $1 billion lawsuit accusing YouTube of enabling copyright infringement."
